I’m a Canadian who’s been living in India since 1984. I started to write regularly about three years ago.
My main concern is to get at the truth of what I’m writing about. Poetry demands a more careful choice of words as well as attention to the beauty of the language itself and so the craft of poetry is also important to me.
I live in a temple town, Jejuri, about ninety minutes from Pune in western Maharashtra. The geography and the culture enter into a lot of what I write about. Maharashtrian culture is very developed but centred on its language and literature which in turn has been largely concerned with the spiritual. So additionally I hope my work in English gives some insight into what I feel is a very important part of world civilisation.
As the first thirty years of my life were lived in Canada, that is the second great land that you will find reflected here.
The point of sharing this is simply that any sort of human creativity or invention needs to be shared to really have meaning. I hope you enjoy this.
